Obama Listens To Bisexual Rapper Frank Ocean
Ah Barack Obama, the one that got away.
Despite him no longer being the President of the United States of America, a lot of American’s still look up to Obama as a social and political leader.
That can go as far as following his charity work around the globe, and can trickle down to following what music he’s listening to.
That’s right, former United States President Barack Obama made a list of his favorite music and books from 2017 and there are a few LGBTQ creatives who made the cut.
Obama shared this list through his official Facebook page, like he has done since the start of his presidency and shared a message to go with it.
“During my presidency, I started a tradition of sharing my reading lists and playlists. It was a nice way to reflect on the works that resonated with me and lift up authors and artists from around the world,” he wrote.
“With some extra time on my hands this year to catch up, I wanted to share the books and music that I enjoyed most. From songs that got me moving to stories that inspired me, here’s my 2017 list — I hope you enjoy it and have a happy and healthy New Year.”
Anyway, there were three LGBTQ creatives who ended up on the list. First, there was Naomi Alderman who wrote the book The Power. The story follows a New York Jewish lesbian living with an orthodox rabbi.
Next, lesbian singer-songwriter Brandi Carlie’s song “The Joke” made the list as well. The Grammy and GLAAD nominated artist created the song as a way to speak about the joys of being a mother, activist, and artist.
Lastly, we have Frank Ocean who made the cut for his song “Chanel.”
Frank Ocean is an Grammy award winning singer and rapper who came out as bisexual in 2012 thorugh a Tumblr post.
Since then, Frank Ocean has been frank about his sexuality through his poetry and music.
In the song “Chanel,” which you can listen to below, Ocean starts off the song with the line, “My guy pretty like a girl.”
Ocean has even shared his thoughts on other LGBTQ content like Call Me By Your Name.
(Warning: Slight SPOILERS for Call Me By Your Name)
Actor Michael Stuhlbarg plays Mr Perlman, main character Elio’s father and love interest Oliver’s professor. Towards the end of the film, Perlman gives a speech saying that he accepts his son’s sexuality, which prompted Ocean to post on Tumblr, “Michael Stuhlbarg is my new dad now and that’s that.”
