This video has nothing to do with living or traveling in Costa Rica, except for the fact I still live in Costa Rica. NO travel tips or ‘living here’ tips. This is merely my story from, ‘living as a drunk to not’. If it can somehow help or maybe someone ‘relates,’ I think that is great. If you only know me from our ‘travel videos’, I would encourage you to SKIP this video, this is for ‘drinkers’ and maybe their family or friends. 1. A drop of a hat man. It takes balls to look in the mirror and admit your mistakes, even more, to go public about it. Great job, Mike.

  2. I've been subscribed for a long time and I just want to say that I feel nothing but respect for sharing your story. I really wish it wasn't so difficult to talk about mental health and addictions (I relate a lot). I think the more it's talked about, the better.

  3. Your looking great Michael. So healthy now, it really shows. It is really a shame so many places you go to eat or vacation to try to push booze on you. When everyone is getting drunk on Mai ties or Pina Colada's and your sober getting an attitude from the waiter for not buying $50 worth of drinks its not much fun. My partner and I would sure love it if someone would develop a booze free cruise ship, or a resort in the Tropics with no drinking. They can serve drinks with the finest ingredients in them and charge $10-15 for each one, only with no booze in them. I am often thinking about both of you wishing I was there with you guys on your great life adventure in the Tropics. Take care. Love and light to both of you.

  4. What kind of fkn moron burns a heart in his arm?The same kind (me) that takes a cross off his neck and lays it on the stove and burns his wrist…twice.

  5. Congrats – it's a tough thing to tackle!! This book helped me. Change your Drinking: A Harm Reduction Guide to Alcohol

  6. It's makes a BIG difference when you "decide" to quit VS if you "choose" to quit.

    >Deciding< will KILL OFF and option to start again.
    >Choosing< gives you an option to start again.

Worked for me over 20 years ago. 👍🏼😃🌴

  7. Thank you! I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I know I don't like the word sober either. It sounds boring, and I want to have fun as a person who doesn't drink. 🙂

  8. Thank you! I’ve been watching your videos for over a year and I relate to eating healthy, exercising & drinking. I got to CR few days ago and having the same issue, well it’s very inspiring to see that you stopped and staying that way. You can, I can hehe

  9. Thanks for sharing. It is a process. For some it takes few months, for others it takes few decades. It is hard to quit drinking, but it is a lot easier than to quit smoking.

I quit both about 20 years ago after looking at my mom's medical textbooks, LOL.

Now I drink orange juice and breathe fresh air instead.

  10. GREAT VIDEO! You actually look younger and have more color in your face than your older videos. Even if this video hits home and/or helps only one person – you made your most important video to date..

  11. Thanks Mike. Great video. I was suicidal for 20 years for my own personal reasons and people thought I was faking it but I meant it. I'm not anymore but I really appreciate you making that clear. It takes guts to come out of it and go on with your life.

  12. Mad respect Mike!!! You are very courageous, for quitting and for making this video. Both my parents are severe alcoholics and my mother is dying a very slow, very lonely, very horiffic death.

  13. Great video Mike. It is a good thing that you lend your voice those who are seeking inspiration to exchange their reality for the better. I hope it goes viral..it has a lot of value.

  14. Thanks for sharing your experiences MA. For someone like me with no substance abuse issues this is a reminder to play carefully. I could easily get myself invovled in known addictive things, but what keeps me away is the knowledge about their risks. So far I have always and easily concluded, it's not worth the risk, and stay away. Your story adds to that knowledge so thank you for that. Please stay away from alcohol and all other addictive substances completely. Just resist. You have to re-train your brain unfortunately and that takes incredible work. All the best!

  15. Bro…cant even begin to imagine doing something like that…putting yourself out there to that degree. "Hard" to the 10th degree, Im sure. I have watched a crap ton of your videos and this one is the one that was hardest to watch….but probably my most favorite one to watch. Proud u are my bro!

  16. It takes a lot of guts to come clean about where you’ve been and why it’s important that you stay committed. I’m pulling for you. WHY? Because you’re worth it! 😀❤️🙏🏾

  17. Mike I have watched your and DeAngelos video's, for the past few years. I have never commented but this one really hits home. I have been drinking way to much since last year when I had a car accident and now cant work. I went from working two jobs. Taking care of the bait business my dad and I run at our house. And well now we are both alcoholics taking care of the shop just to make it by. Mind you last year when I got in the accident I was only twenty, now I'm 21 and it is becoming a serious problem.

  18. So the earrings?
    Why?
    Drunk move?
    Yeah I figured.
    Lose them.
They’re just making you look drunk stupid and girly man.
