Norman Reedus Could Get Nearly $100 Million

The Walking Dead is desperate to keep some star power. Especially after several of its biggest hitters have left or are rumored to be leaving. But one actor is seeing the benefit of that panic.

Comicbook.com reports that Norman Reedus (who plays Daryl Dixon) could soon receive a $50 million to $90 million deal. Reedus has grown a committed fan base. That’s a benefit of being one of the last remaining cast members from season 1.  It appears that executives over at AMC recognize this. Also, they’re willing to pay a lot to keep Reedus and his fans with The Walking Dead.

“Sources say Reedus — who also hosts and executive produces AMC’s unscripted motorcycle series Ride With Norman Reedus — will make $350,000 per episode,” The Hollywood Reporter writes. “On top of additional guarantees and advances in a deal that sources say could be worth anywhere from $50 million to $90 million.”

Reedus and fellow beginning castmate Melissa McBride (who plays Carol) have also been given special rights. They get to move throughout the Walking Dead universe. This means their characters can appear in other series and projects under the same Zombie-filled franchise.

The money and the promise of more work in the future is nice. But, Reedus says that he’s seriously interested in seeing the show through to the end.

As he told ComicBook.com in September:

“You know, I started on Season One of the show, and I’d love to bookend it,” Reedus said. “I put so much effort into this. For me to walk away now would just seem so cowardly. It’s a fight every day, in a million different ways. But it’s a fight that I’ve been invested in. My family’s here, I like my life here. I like riding my motorcycle through the country to work. I’ve been in New York a long, long time, and now every time I go back to New York I just wanna go back to Georgia.”

Earlier this season, the zombie apocalypse show saw the departure of its main character Rick Grimes. Actor Andrew Lincoln quit the long running show due to personal family reasons.

As he explained to EW Radio, “I have two young children, and I live in a different country, and they become less portable as they get older. It was that simple. It was time for me to come home.”

Talking to fans at San Diego Comic-Con last year, Rick Grimes shared how he’ll miss the fan base. After all, they supported him for almost a decade now.

“This will be my last season playing the role of Rick Grimes. It means everything to me. I love the people who make this show. I’m particularly fond of the people who watch this show. My relationship with Mr Rick Grimes is far from over.”

Many fans left the series after fan favorite character Glenn (played by Steven Yeun) was killed off. Many others then left after teen actor Chandler Riggs was fired. Many saw his character’s sudden death as the writing room’s attempt at a shocking moment for views. Unfortunately for them, it had the opposite effect.

Now, it appears that Danai Gurira (who plays Michone) may also be departing after the ninth season. It’s believed that due to her increasing time constraints from playing Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and her upped payment requests), Gurira might not return for the tenth season.

It appears that The Walking Dead is in a tricky spot right now. It has a declining viewer base and many of its actors are jumping ship or are being written off. But, AMC and the writing staff are not quiting yet, and don’t want to get rid of their cash-cow. But will this major pay deal and two committed actors keep this sinking ship afloat?
